How We 3D Print Your Custom Number Plate

Ever wondered what happens after you hit checkout? Here's a peek behind the curtain at how your custom plate goes from pixels to plastic.

Step 1: Parametric Design

Each plate style is built as a fully parametric 3D model. That means the width, text spacing, and raised lettering automatically adjust to fit whatever text you enter. No manual tweaking needed - the geometry is generated fresh for every single order.

Step 2: Slicing for Print

The 3D model is sliced into hundreds of thin layers (typically 0.16 mm each) that the printer builds up one at a time. We use PLA Matte filament for its smooth surface finish and wide colour range - the same palette you see in the configurator.

Step 3: Multi-Colour Printing

Plates with different base and text colours use an Automatic Material System (AMS) that swaps filament mid-print. This lets us produce crisp, multi-colour plates in a single run without painting or stickers.

The result is colour that goes all the way through the material - not just a surface coating that can scratch off.

Step 4: Quality Check & Fixings

Every plate is inspected for:

  • Layer adhesion - no delamination or weak spots
  • Colour accuracy - matching what you saw in the configurator
  • Text clarity - crisp, readable raised lettering

We then attach your chosen fixings - adhesive tape, velcro strips, screw hardware, or magnetic mounts - and package it for shipping.
