Why Our Plate Holder Makes Every Plate Hot-Swappable

Most people think of a plate as a one-and-done thing. Stick it on, forget about it. And that's fine - but if you've got more than one kid, or you want different plates on the front and back, or you just like switching things up, one plate stuck with adhesive starts to feel limiting.

That's exactly why we built the sheath holder.

What Is the Sheath Holder?

It's a slim frame that mounts to any surface - ride-on car, wall, dashboard, desk, you name it. The holder stays put. Your plates slide in and out of it like a card into a slot. No peeling, no re-sticking, no tools. Just slide, click, done.

You mount it once with adhesive, screws, or magnets, then swap plates as often as you like. The holder grips the plate firmly so it won't rattle loose, but releasing it takes two seconds.

The Sibling Problem (Solved)

This is the number one reason people grab a holder. If you've got two or three kids sharing a ride-on car, nobody wants to see someone else's name on "their" car. With a holder on the front and back, each kid gets their own plate. Before they hop on, slide their name in. Takes less time than buckling them up.

We hear from parents all the time who say the fighting stopped the day each kid got their own plate. One holder, three plates, zero drama. Our kids' ride-on accessories guide has more ideas on kitting out the car.

Different Front and Back

Plenty of people run a different plate on the front versus the back. Your name on the front, a cheeky slogan on the back. Or match one to your car's colour scheme and go wild with the other. With holders on both ends, you can mix and match however you want.

This is popular with man caves too - mount a holder above the bar and rotate through plates for different occasions. Game day plate, birthday plate, the classic "THE.BOSS" for the rest of the year. Check out our man cave and shed ideas for more inspiration.

Build a Collection

Once you've got a holder mounted, adding a new plate is just another plate - no extra fixings, no reinstalling, no commitment. That opens up some fun possibilities:

  • Seasonal swaps - a Christmas-themed plate for December, a birthday plate for the party, your everyday plate the rest of the year
  • Colour matching - just changed your desk setup? Swap to a plate that matches the new vibe. Our colour combinations guide can help you pick
  • Gifts that keep giving - know someone who already has a holder? An extra plate makes a quick, thoughtful gift they can use straight away

How It Compares to Other Fixings

We offer four fixing methods - adhesive, velcro, screws, and magnets. Each has its place, and we break them all down in our fixings guide. But here's the short version of why the holder stands apart:

Velcro lets you reposition a single plate, but the sheath holder is purpose-built for swapping different plates in and out. If you know you'll want more than one plate on the same spot, the holder pays for itself.

What Does It Cost?

The holder is an add-on during checkout:

  • Mini (70×28 mm): $5
  • Coupe (146×42 mm): $6
  • Truck (240×68 mm): $7

Optional embedded magnets in the holder add $5 for a magnetic snap-in hold. If you're going for the bundle deal, two holders are already included.

Ready to Swap?

Head to the 3D configurator, design your first plate, and tick the holder add-on during checkout. Once it's mounted, every future plate just slides right in. One holder, endless plates.
