Adhesive Tape

$2.00

Industrial-strength double-sided adhesive pads pre-applied to the back of your plate. Peel, press, done.

We use Scotch Permanent Clear Mounting Tape (3M 4010) - industrial-quality double-sided adhesive rated to hold up to 908g. It's clear, permanent, and bonds strongly to smooth indoor surfaces like plasterboard, glass, tiles, and wood. Each plate comes with tape pre-cut and positioned for optimal hold.

Best for

  • Renters who can't drill holes
  • Smooth surfaces - plasterboard, glass, tiles, metal
  • Permanent or semi-permanent mounting
  • Desks, shelves, and flat surfaces

Not ideal for

  • Textured or rough surfaces (brick, unfinished timber)
  • Surfaces exposed to extreme heat (above 55°C)
  • Frequent repositioning

How to install

  1. 1.Clean the mounting surface with a damp cloth and let it dry
  2. 2.Peel the backing from the adhesive pads on your plate
  3. 3.Press the plate firmly against the surface and hold for 30 seconds
  4. 4.Allow 24 hours for full bond strength before adding any weight
Removal: Slide dental floss or fishing line slowly behind the plate to break the bond. Any residue lifts off with eucalyptus oil or isopropyl alcohol.

Velcro Hanging Strips

$2.00

Industrial-strength velcro strips that let you mount, remove, and reposition your plate without any damage.

Velcro hanging strips being used to mount a 3D-printed number plate on a wall

Velcro is the go-to option if you like changing things up. Mount the wall strip once, then swap plates in and out whenever you want. The strips hold strong under normal conditions but separate cleanly when you pull. Also the default choice for memorial plates.

Best for

  • Renters and damage-free mounting
  • Swapping plates regularly
  • Painted walls and smooth surfaces
  • Memorial plates and display pieces

Not ideal for

  • Heavy outdoor exposure
  • Textured brick or stone
  • Surfaces that get wet regularly

How to install

  1. 1.Clean both the wall and plate back with a damp cloth
  2. 2.Attach the hook side of the velcro strip to the plate back
  3. 3.Attach the loop side to the wall where you want the plate
  4. 4.Press each side firmly for 30 seconds, then mount the plate
Removal: Pull the plate straight off the wall - it separates at the velcro. To remove the wall strip, peel it slowly at a 90-degree angle. No residue, no damage to paint.

Screw Holes + Screws

$3.00

Pre-drilled screw holes in the plate with matching stainless steel self-tapping screws included. The most secure, permanent option.

Front of a 3D-printed VIC slimline plate with screw holes at the top corners and stainless steel screws alongside

Each plate is printed with precision-placed screw holes and ships with matching M2 stainless steel self-tapping screws. The holes are positioned to distribute weight evenly. For larger Truck-sized plates, this is the recommended option - it's the most secure mounting method we offer.

Best for

  • Permanent displays - sheds, garages, workshops
  • Outdoor or semi-outdoor mounting
  • Heavy plates (Truck size)
  • Timber, brick, concrete, and plasterboard with anchors

Not ideal for

  • Rental properties where you can't drill
  • Glass, tiles, or surfaces you don't want to mark
  • Frequent repositioning

How to install

  1. 1.Hold the plate against the wall and mark the screw positions with a pencil
  2. 2.For timber: drill pilot holes slightly smaller than the screws
  3. 3.For brick/concrete: use a masonry bit and wall plugs
  4. 4.For plasterboard: use wall anchors (butterfly clips)
  5. 5.Drive the supplied screws through the plate holes into the wall
Removal: Unscrew and remove. Fill any holes with lightweight filler or a dab of toothpaste for small holes in plasterboard.

Embedded Magnets

$5.00

Neodymium rare-earth magnets embedded in your plate, holder, or both. Snaps onto any ferrous (magnetic) metal surface instantly.

Back of a black 3D-printed number plate with small neodymium magnets embedded flush in each corner and along the edges for magnetic mounting

We use genuine N50-grade neodymium disc magnets (3mm × 1.5mm) sourced from AMF Magnetics in Australia. Each magnet pulls 208g and they're spaced no more than 10cm apart for even hold across the plate. Mini plates get 4 magnets, Coupe plates get 6, and Truck plates get 8. They're press-fitted into precision cavities printed into the plate or holder back, sitting perfectly flush. Use the fixing location selector in the configurator to choose whether magnets go in the plate, the holder, or both.

Best for

  • Fridges, filing cabinets, and metal shelving
  • Toolboxes and workshop surfaces
  • Metal doors and lockers
  • Swapping plates on the same magnetic mount (holder location)

Not ideal for

  • Non-magnetic surfaces (aluminium, wood, plasterboard, glass)
  • Stainless steel (most stainless is non-magnetic)
  • Outdoor use in very hot conditions

How to install

  1. 1.Choose where the magnets go: plate, holder, or both (in the configurator)
  2. 2.Check the surface is magnetic - test with a fridge magnet
  3. 3.Place the plate or holder on the surface. The embedded magnets snap it into place
  4. 4.When using the holder location, slide your plate in and out without moving the mount
Removal: Slide the plate or holder sideways to break the magnetic hold, or lift from one edge. Repositioning is instant and unlimited.

Still not sure which fixing to choose?

The short answer: adhesive or velcro for most indoor surfaces, screws for sheds and garages, magnets for fridges and toolboxes. If you need a hand deciding, get in touch and we'll help you pick.
